Card Brand Updates: April 2023
Effective April 14, 2023, NCR PS will update our systems to reflect the following technical enhancements. Here's an overview of what's changing.
- To support the migration from magnetic-stripe data (MSD) contactless transactions to the EMV based contactless functionality, NPS will implement a $0.10 per transaction fee to merchants that are still processing MSD contactless transactions. Here's why...
- Visa: October 19, 2019, all POS devices that support contactless must be EMV instead of MSD
- Mastercard: By April 1, 2023, all existing devices must support EMV contactless if the POS supports contactless
- Discover: January 15, 2021, all newly deployed devices may only be enabled for EMV contactless
- AMEX: April 9, 2021, existing devices must support EMV contactless if they do contactless
- Visa has implemented changes to no longer support certain existing address verification results codes (AVS), as they retire and redefine certain existing values.
- NCR PS will support the new MCC 5723 for Firearm and Ammunition stores.
- Implementing support for Visa processing of domestic and cross-border Recurring Payment transactions for cards issued in India.
- eCommerce transactions using fully authenticated tokens must be classified with an electronic commerce indicator (ECI) 05, for fraud dispute protection.
- Visa is introducing changes and revisions to the dispute rules that apply to Dispute Condition 10.4: Other Fraud - Card-Absent Environment.
- Discover increased interchange rates and fees for Consumer and Commercial Credit, Debit, and Prepaid card products.
- NCP PS Pin Debit Access Fee will increase monthly from $4.25 to $10 per month.
