Periodical Rule: Setting up balance expirations
SCENARIO: Did you accidentally run a periodical campaign rule where you gave out rewards to customers who should not have gotten them? You can fix it with this rule! Simply set up a balance expiration periodical campaign rule and apply it to the segment of customers who should not have received these points.

Step 1: Naming the rule

- Type a simple and descriptive name for this rule, such as Balance Expiration Rule.
- Select This rule is active to activate the rule so you can test and deploy it. If you are not yet ready to activate the rule, you can always do so later.
Step 2: Selecting the segment

- Create a segment specifically for this rule that contains all customers who should not have benefitted from the periodical campaign rule you ran previously.
- Select Specific Segments to designate the appropriate customers for this rule.
- Select the segment created for this rule.
Step 3: Determining conditions

- Select the Balance condition.
- Select the balance type to expire from the drop-down list and type the amount to expire in the minimum box to the right.
- Select Count as Expiration to expire the balance you input.
- Select Take away the threshold amount when results fire.
- Clear Limit to one match per checkout if you want this rule to repeat; otherwise, leave this option selected.
Step 4: Selecting frequency and timing

- Select Yes, limit per customer since this rule should have limits on how often it runs.
- Select By total occurrences since you want this rule to run only once and then type of 'Maximum of 1 times ever' to the right.
- Clear This rule runs at checkout, as this rule needs to run as a periodical event.
- Select As a periodical event.
- Set the periodical schedule, as needed.
Step 5: Determining results
Skip this section. The result runs based on the Count as Expiration check box selected in Step 3, which expires the balances.
Step 6: Confirming communication
You can choose to send a notification when this rule runs; otherwise, leave No selected.
