Release stages
Controlled Deployment version — Newly released Aloha Cloud POS version that is not available to Pilot customers. This version provides early access to new features for selected customers.
Pilot version — Newly released Aloha Cloud POS version that is available to Pilot customers. A Pilot version usually takes three weeks. When the Pilot version meets Globally Available (GA) criteria, it becomes a GA version. This results in a Minimum version change, as well.
Globally Available version (GA) — Recommended Aloha Cloud POS version for most of our customers.
Minimum version — Lowest supported Aloha Cloud POS version that customers are allowed to use.
Release types
Feature release — A significant update that introduces new features and enhancements to existing functionalities in Aloha Cloud products.
Maintenance release — An incremental update between feature releases to fix multiple outstanding issues.
Hotfix release — An update to fix a very specific issue (not always publicly released).

Minimum version criteria for Aloha Cloud POS
- The minimum version is usually the previous GA version.
- Once a new version becomes GA, the previous GA version becomes the new minimum version.

- Minimum 50 restaurants
- Minimum 100 devices
- Minimum 15 restaurants using Quick Service mode
- Minimum 15 restaurants using Table Service mode

Release rollout process
Pilot version
- All customers enrolled in the Pilot program receive an upgrade prompt on their Point of Sale (POS) when a new Pilot version becomes available.
- The upgrade prompt appears while the Pilot program is active. Once the pilot program is deactivated, the upgrade prompt disappears, and customers must then contact NCR Voyix Support for the upgrade.
- If a customer does not upgrade, they remain on their current version.
- Customers who are not enrolled in the Pilot program do not receive the upgrade prompt on the POS; however, they can always contact NCR Voyix Support to upgrade.
GA version
-
When a version becomes GA, all customers running a version of Aloha Cloud below the new GA version receive an upgrade prompt on the POS.
-
If a customer does not upgrade, the POS remains on the current version.
-
The upgrade prompt remains on the POS until the customer upgrades to the new GA version.
Note: Customers who do not want the upgrade prompt to appear on the POS can contact NCR Voyix Support for a version override, allowing them to stay on versions older than the GA version but higher than or equal to the Minimum version.
-
All new POS and handheld devices shipped from NCR Voyix ship with the current GA version.
Minimum version
- Once an older GA version becomes the Minimum version, all customers running a version of Aloha Cloud below the new Minimum version receive an upgrade prompt on the POS and they cannot use the POS until they upgrade to the current GA version. This does not affect customers running a version higher than or equal to the new Minimum version.
- Customers running a version below the new Minimum version who do not want to upgrade to the GA version can contact NCR Voyix Support to request a version override and upgrade to the new Minimum version. There is no option for any customer to stay on a version older than the Minimum version.
