Exception Modifiers (TS only)
Select Maintenance > Menu > Exception Modifiers to access this function.
Exception modifiers are items, not attached to a menu item, that you can use to modify any menu item on the Aloha Table Service order entry screen. These items are requested by guests often enough to warrant their inclusion in the order entry system. Examples of exception modifiers can include such things as cheese sauce, onions, hot sauce, and more.
After you create an exception modifier group, you attach it to a submenu. When an employee orders an item in the FOH, they can touch Modify, and then touch Special, to access the exception modifiers. This eliminates the need to manually type special modifiers for items.
Note: Exception modifiers apply to Aloha Table Service only.
Exception Modifier quick tips
There are several rules or tips to follow when you add a new exception modifier group:
- If you want to include an item in an exception modifier group, you must first add the item to the items database. Modifier group record numbers begin at 20,000 and end at 29,999.
- You can price exception modifiers, as necessary. Keep in mind, the price of an exception modifier is not sensitive to the ‘No’ or ‘Extra’ modifier buttons. In other words, if you order ‘No Cheese’ using the ‘No’ and ‘Cheese’ modifier buttons, the price of ‘Cheese’ (if there is a price assigned) does not change accordingly.
- Modifier groups can modify other modifier groups. For example, a ‘salads’ modifier group can modify a dinner entrée item and a ‘salad toppings’ modifier group can modify a salad.
- The system permits up to 20 exception modifier groups, with each group containing up to 108 items. You can define up to as many as six pages of exception modifiers.
- You must attach the modifier groups to the applicable submenus, under Maintenance > Menu > Submenus, for the exception modifier group to appear on the POS terminal when you order from the Table Service order entry screen.

The following buttons and options also appear on the Layout tab:
