Menus (TS only)
Select Maintenance > Menu > Menus to access this function.
Menus are a collection of submenus that represent your store menu. You can create menus for different times of the day, such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or for different job positions, such as bartender and server. You can also create menus for special events that require different item prices, such as a happy hour menu.
The Menus function enables you to create as many menus as you need. The menu that appears on the Front-of-House (FOH) terminal for a restaurant employee is based on both the default menu and the job code assigned to the employee. You can override the default menu with another menu, such as a happy hour menu, by using Maintenance > System Settings > Event Schedule.
Menus quick tips
There are several rules or tips to follow when you add a new menu:
- You assign default menus to servers, bartenders, and cashiers in Maintenance > Business > Store > Store Settings tab > Order Entry group under the ‘Screen settings’ group bar.
- Menus are composed of submenus. First, create all submenus and then attach these submenus to the appropriate menus.
- You can create as many menus as necessary. Example menus include ‘Server’ menu, ‘To Go’ menu, ‘Bar’ menu, and ‘Happy Hour’ menu.
- You assign menus to job codes.
- You can override a default menu for servers, bartenders, or cashiers using specific events in Maintenance > System Settings > Event Schedules.
Menu tab
Use the Menu tab to identify the menu.
Group Bar: Settings
Short name — Identifies the short menu name that appears on buttons on FOH screens. Type a maximum of 15 characters.
Note: If you type more than 11 characters in ‘Short name,’ the name might appear cropped on a button. As a solution, type ‘\n’ at the desired line break in the ‘Short Name’ text box to configure the short name to appear as two lines on a button. For example, type ‘Bar\nMenu’ to have ‘Bar’ appear on the top line and ‘Menu’ appear on the bottom line of a button. Typing ‘\n’ does count as two of the allotted 15 characters.
Long name — Identifies the longer, more descriptive menu name that appears on reports and other reporting features in the Aloha POS system. Type a maximum of 40 characters.
Layout tab
The Layout tab contains the button positions used to add submenus to the menu order entry screen. Click the double up and down arrows to toggle between submenu positions, if more submenus are required for the menu. Submenus appear on the order entry screen in the order in which you place them on the Layout tab; therefore, add submenus per the order of service or most popular items.
Printer Group Reroutes tab
Use the Printer Group Reroutes tab to reassign items on the selected menu from one printer group to another, overriding the printer group assigned to each item in the Item Routing function.
Group Bar: Printer group reroutes
From and To — Temporarily sends the items routed to the printer group in ‘From’ to the printer group in ‘To.’ For example, you can send items normally sent to the Bar printer group, to a Service Bar printer group while the defined menu is active. When the menu is inactive, the printer group rerouting does not apply. You can define up to five printer group reroutes for each menu.
Tax Reroutes tab
Use the Tax Reroutes tab to reassign items on the selected menu from one tax group to another. For example, you configure an alcoholic beverage item with tax included in the price when a guest orders from the bar, but when a guest orders the same drink from a restaurant menu, you need to exclude the tax from the beverage price and calculate tax on the overall guest check amount.
